[It takes him a minute to answer, but not because he really minded the question. It was just that "fighting for the fate of the world" sounded so damn cliche when put bluntly.]
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
Spent the last few years going up against some pretty tough odds. More than just our lives were at stake, and the fighting had hit a fever pitch in the last few months before I got dragged out here.
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
Got myself injured, so I wasn't too mobile for a while. But even before that, most of the fighting we did required us to be piloting machines.
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
Takes a different sort of skill set, so I'm admittedly a little rusty when it comes to fighting on the ground.
They're called LFOs. Huge machines with humanoid and vehicle forms. I'm sure you've seen the Gundam that kid Banagher pilots? They're similar, in some ways.
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
And yeah, I'm sure you're right. Just gotta put a little effort in.
Day 111
Are you settling in alright? I'm sure that you've had enough fun to last you a lifetime already.
no subject
That's one way to put it.
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
But I'm getting along fine despite all the excitement. Better than just hanging around, bored out of my mind.
no subject
I'm sure you'll be wishing that you had enough time to be bored soon.
FROM: brooksjr.barnaby@cdc.org
But that's good to know. Do let me know if you require anything.
no subject
Yeah, this doesn't seem like a line of work that can afford much downtime.
[Which was a damn shame, but about what he'd expected.]
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
Well, here's a question for you: got any suggestions for recruits who'd be up for some sparring?
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
This place is just full of trouble, and I'd rather be on top of my game, you know?
no subject
What kind of practice are you looking for? If you're interested in hand-to-hand, I'd be happy to assist you.
FROM: brooksjr.barnaby@cdc.org
For weaponry I can suggest various people.
no subject
Mainly had hand-to-hand in mind, yeah.
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
Got my bases covered with weapons, but I need to make sure I stay balanced.
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
So if you're willing, I'm game.
no subject
I understand what you mean, and I certainly don't mind. I'm happy to help with training, though I would ask that it be a semi-regular thing.
FROM: brooksjr.barnaby@cdc.org
Keeping on top of training is important with the CDC.
no subject
Sure as hell seems like it, yeah.
FROM: novak.holland@cdc.org
Gotta admit it'll be nice to get some regular training in again. Been a while since I really had the chance for it.
no subject
Is that so? What happened in your world to cause that?
FROM: brooksjr.barnaby@cdc.org
If you don't mind the question.

Piloting machines? What kind of piloting machines?
FROM: brooksjr.barnaby@cdc.org
I'm sure that there are many here who would be willing to help you get back on your feet.

I have indeed seen the Gundam, yes. It's very impressive. The LFOs are in a similar way? I must say, I'm envious of such incredible machinery.
